The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Feedback
The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined game identity.
The president stated that the team is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the entire text from Ismailer's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our players.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the new Director of the team. Following several months of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.
The President

Title Details and Concept
The upcoming game was announced in October 2024 alongside a early access event. At the time, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary states. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that shift every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, gamble everything, and trust your team can earn top ranking? The option is up to you."
The game lacks an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can anticipate more updates as creation continues.
